In The Pearl of the Sea, love becomes a riddle, time a mirror, and identity a shifting tide. The story follows Ilan, a gifted but deeply troubled scientist and artist in Paris, who is unable to articulate his feelings for Lisa, the woman who has been his closest companion for two decades.

Pressed for proof of love, Ilan pledges to create a true pearl in his lab, an impossible gesture meant to transcend logic and embody emotion. As he immerses himself in the experiment, reality begins to dissolve. Ilan is visited by visions, hears the ocean in his lab, and becomes consumed by the spirit of Ivan Agueli, a forgotten 19th-century Sufi painter, anarchist, and mystic.
